Three members of Hathaway Brown's debate team — seniors Jenn Blumer, Aly Bryan, and Brenna Scully — received a very prestigious honor when their International Public Policy Forum (IPPF) essay qualified as one of the “Top 32” teams internationally. The IPPF is an international competition of “written debate” sponsored by the Bickel and Brewer law firm and New York University. Teams from 34 states and 29 countries wrote preliminary round essays on the resolution “Resolved: Adaptation should be the most urgent response to climate change.”
The team now moves into the elimination round bracket competing for an all-expenses paid trip to NYU to compete live at the IPPF Finals in April. They will compete against Coral Reef Senior High School in Miami, exchanging written arguments weekly over the next month that will be reviewed by a panel of judges. If they advance to the next round, they will compete against the winner of the Vestavia Hills (AL) / Greenhill School (TX) match.
This is a major honor for the school, as HB is the only Ohio team ever to qualify for the IPPF's top 32 teams in the competition's 12 years. HB was one of only three schools in the Midwest to make it to this level of competition.
