Students in Kindergarten, First, and Second grade welcomed their parents and other honored guests for a very special Winter Music "informance" today. The object of the informance was to inform the audience about the performing arts curricula in the Primary School, while the girls entertained and spread some holiday cheer.
With a selection of numbers ranging from "The Gingerbread Man" to "Jingle Bells," the program showcased fun music and movement pieces. The audience also witnessed how the girls share ideas and saw the way learning builds as the grades progress.
Music and movement instruction in the Prime is rooted in the Orff Schulwerk philosophy, which allows students to create their own music and dance rather than simply reproducing music and dance created for them by adults. The informance offered a glimpse into how HB girls use the approach as they sing, move, speak, and play percussion instruments and recorders.
