Over the course of the last few months, we've received several reports about small groups of young people who have been spotted throughout Northeast Ohio, outside shopping centers, restaurants, and private residences attempting to sell candy bars under the guise of a Hathaway Brown tuition fundraiser. Quite often, these would-be salespeople have been hostile, discourteous, and even threatening to those they've approached.
Please be advised that Hathaway Brown is not sponsoring any type of fundraising initiative involving the sale of candy at this time. We do not encourage our girls to go door-to-door or to otherwise solicit funds to cover tuition.
We are completely confident that the people who are attempting to pass themselves as HB students are not in fact enrolled at our school, and we've been in touch with local law enforcement agencies to make them aware of this scam. Additionally, several news organizations and the Better Business Bureau have been contacted as well.
If you encounter anyone attempting to sell candy for the benefit of HB, please contact the police department in that particular community. Thank you for your assistance with this matter.
