On Tuesday, May 20, two Hathaway Brown Service Learning Fellows, Christina Pineda '14 and Loryn Smith '14, presented their capstone projects to the Board of Directors at the Rainey Institute.
As part of the Center for Civic Engagement's Service Learning program, each student does volunteer work at a Cleveland area organization and creates a capstone project that documents her experience. Christina and Loryn volunteered at Rainey, a Cleveland-area arts organization that offers after-school activities, and developed strong bonds with the students there.
The opportunity to present at Rainey arose after Rainey's Executive Director Lee Lazar attended the the Service Learning Capstone Reception, in April and was moved by the projects that honored the Institute.
Loryn created a photo book and Christina developed a photo exhibit. Both students read the remarks that they wrote for the April reception at HB and subsequently donated their final projects to Rainey. It was a terrific moment for these girls, HB, and the Rainey Institute.
